3D Digital Impressions

Serving the Elgin community—Where dentistry feels like family.

No Messy Goop. No Guesswork. Just a More Comfortable Scan.

If you’ve ever had a traditional dental impression, you probably remember the tray, the thick putty, and the uncomfortable feeling of waiting for it to set. At Elgin Smiles, we use CEREC Primescan technology to make that experience faster, cleaner, and much more comfortable.

With 3D digital impressions, Dr. Ryan Fahmy can capture a detailed digital model of your teeth and bite without the messy impression material. This helps us plan crowns, restorations, clear aligners, and other treatments with greater precision and a better patient experience.

It’s high-tech dentistry without the cold, corporate feeling. Just better tools, clearer answers, and more comfortable care right here in Elgin.

A Better Way to Take Dental Impressions

Traditional impressions have been used in dentistry for years, but they are not always easy on patients. The material can feel bulky, trigger a gag reflex, or leave you wondering whether the impression captured everything correctly.

At Elgin Smiles, we use CEREC Primescan to capture a detailed 3D digital impression of your mouth. A small handheld scanner moves comfortably around your teeth while the images appear on screen in real time.

That means:

    • No goopy impression trays in many cases

    • No waiting for putty to harden

    • No uncomfortable mouthful of material

    • A clear digital model of your teeth and bite

    • Faster communication for certain treatment planning

    • A more comfortable experience for anxious patients

Whether you’re coming from Downtown Elgin, Harvest Ridge, Silo Ranch, Eagle’s Landing, or County Line, we make modern dental care easier to sit through and easier to understand.

What Is CEREC Primescan?

CEREC Primescan is the digital scanning technology we use to create highly detailed 3D impressions of your teeth.

In plain English, it replaces many of the old-school steps that used to make dental impressions uncomfortable. Instead of biting into a tray of impression material, you simply sit back while we scan your teeth with a small camera-like device.

The scan creates a digital model that can be used to help plan treatment, design restorations, and improve communication between you, Dr. Fahmy, and any dental lab or technology involved in your care.

It also fits naturally with our same-day crown workflow. When a crown can be completed with CEREC technology, CEREC Primescan captures the digital impression, and CEREC Primemill helps create the final restoration right here in our office.

What Are 3D Digital Impressions Used For?

Digital impressions can support several types of dental care at Elgin Smiles.

Dr. Fahmy may use CEREC Primescan for:

    • Same-day dental crowns

    • Custom dental restorations

    • Dental crown replacements

    • SureSmile clear aligner planning

    • Retainers or oral appliances when appropriate

    • Bite evaluation

    • Cosmetic treatment planning

    • Patient education and treatment explanations

This technology helps us see more clearly, plan more carefully, and explain your treatment in a way that actually makes sense.

No “just trust us.” No guessing. You get to see what we see.

More Comfortable for Patients Who Hate Impressions

Some patients avoid dental treatment because they remember how uncomfortable traditional impressions felt. If you have a sensitive gag reflex, dental anxiety, or trouble keeping impression trays in your mouth, digital impressions can make a major difference.

With CEREC Primescan, the process is typically quick, clean, and much easier to tolerate.

Patients often appreciate that digital impressions are:

    • More comfortable than traditional putty impressions

    • Easier for patients with a strong gag reflex

    • Faster than many traditional impression methods

    • Less messy

    • Easy to pause if needed

    • Helpful for seeing your teeth on screen

This is the kind of technology that supports the way we already practice dentistry at Elgin Smiles: patient-first, unhurried, and designed around your comfort.

See Your Smile in a Whole New Way

One of the best parts of digital impression technology is that it helps make dentistry more transparent. Instead of trying to understand a treatment plan based on confusing dental terms, you can see a digital model of your own teeth.

Dr. Fahmy can use this technology to help explain:

    • Worn or damaged teeth

    • Bite concerns

    • Cracked or weakened areas

    • Crown needs

    • Alignment concerns

    • How a restoration may fit into your smile

    • Why a certain treatment may be recommended

We believe patients make better decisions when they can actually understand what is happening. CEREC Primescan helps make that possible.

High-Tech Care Without the “Factory” Feeling

At some offices, technology can make care feel rushed. At Elgin Smiles, we use technology to make your visit more precise, more comfortable, and more personal.

Digital impressions help us work efficiently, but they do not replace the one-on-one attention you get from Dr. Fahmy and our team. We still take time to answer your questions, explain your options, and make sure you feel confident before moving forward.

During your visit, you can still enjoy the comforts that make Elgin Smiles different:

    • Massaging Chairs: Relax while we capture your scan or plan your treatment.

    • Streaming TVs: Watch your favorite show during your appointment.

    • Plain-English Explanations: We show you what we see and explain what it means.

    • Modern Digital Tools: Better technology helps make treatment more comfortable and efficient.

    • No Rushing: Your care is planned for your smile, not a corporate quota.

How Digital Impressions Support Same-Day Crowns

3D digital impressions are a key part of our CEREC same-day crown process.

When a same-day crown is appropriate, we can use CEREC Primescan to capture a detailed scan of your tooth after it has been prepared. That scan helps Dr. Fahmy design a crown that fits your tooth, bite, and surrounding smile.

From there, CEREC Primemill can create the crown in-office from a durable ceramic material. In many cases, that means you can leave with your final crown the same day instead of wearing a temporary crown for weeks.

Not every case is the same, and not every crown is automatically completed in one visit. If a different approach is better for your tooth, Dr. Fahmy will explain that clearly.

Clear Costs, No “Bill Shock”

Technology should make care better, not more confusing. Before treatment begins, we will explain what is being recommended, why it matters, and what your estimated cost may be.

At Elgin Smiles, we help make the financial side easier with:

    • Insurance Advocacy: We work with major insurance providers and help verify your benefits.

    • Upfront Estimates: You will receive a clear cost breakdown before treatment starts.

    • Flexible Payments: Cherry and CareCredit financing options are available for qualifying patients.

    • Clear Treatment Planning: You will understand how digital impressions fit into your care before moving forward.

No hidden surprises. No confusing handoff. No “bill shock.”
