Deep Cleanings

Serving the Elgin community—Where dentistry feels like family.

Your Gums Are the Foundation of Your Health

You can’t have a healthy smile without healthy gums. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, but it is often silent until it becomes a serious problem. At Elgin Smiles, we don’t just “clean teeth.” We provide comprehensive periodontal care to protect your smile and your overall well-being. Dr. Ryan Fahmy and our team offer a patient-first, “Anti-Corporate” approach to gum health for families in Downtown Elgin, Harvest Ridge, and the surrounding 78621 area.

The Connection Between Your Smile and Your Body

Recent medical studies have shown a direct link between periodontal (gum) disease and systemic health issues like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Because we are a locally-owned practice, we take the time to look at the “big picture” of your health rather than rushing through a standard cleaning.

When you visit us, we use digital intraoral cameras to show you exactly what we see. We don’t just tell you that you have gum recession or inflammation; we project high-definition images on our screens so you can understand the health of your “foundation.” By identifying the early signs of gingivitis or more advanced periodontitis, we can stop the spread of bacteria before it impacts your bone health.

Specialized Care to Stop Gum Disease in Its Tracks

We provide targeted periodontal treatments designed to restore your health and save your natural teeth.

Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

If plaque and tartar (calculus) have made their way beneath your gum line, a standard cleaning isn’t enough. We perform “Deep Cleanings” to remove the harmful biofilm from the roots of your teeth. This allows your gum tissue to heal and reattach, shrinking the “pockets” where bacteria hide.

Periodontal Maintenance

For our patients who have a history of gum disease, we offer specialized maintenance programs. These visits are more frequent than a standard six-month checkup, ensuring that the bacteria associated with periodontitis stays under control.

Antibiotic Therapy

In cases of persistent infection, we use localized antibiotic treatments to kill bacteria in the deep pockets of the gums, helping to speed up the healing process and prevent further bone loss.

A Calmer Path to Healing

We know that “Deep Cleanings” can sound intimidating, and they often take a bit more time than a routine visit. To make sure you’re comfortable throughout your treatment, we’ve turned our office on North Avenue C into a relaxing retreat.

You can settle into a heated massage chair to ease any tension while we work on your smile. If the sound of the equipment is a concern, you can lose yourself in a movie or your favorite show on our ceiling-mounted TVs. Our “No-Judgment Zone” policy means we focus entirely on your healing—not on how long it’s been since your last dental visit.

Clear Costs, No Financial Surprises.

Periodontal care is an investment in keeping your natural teeth for a lifetime. We believe that cost should never be a mystery. Before your treatment begins, our team acts as your advocate to navigate the specifics of your insurance plan.

    • Maximized Coverage: Many plans cover periodontal therapy differently than preventive care. We work with providers like Delta Dental, Cigna, and MetLife to ensure you get every dollar of benefit you’re entitled to.

    • Upfront Estimates: We’ll provide a written breakdown of your treatment plan before we start.

    • Flexible Payments: To help our neighbors in Elgin manage the cost of care, we offer 0% APR financing through Cherry and CareCredit, allowing you to choose health without the “bill shock.”

Your Local Partner for Lifelong Oral Health

You don’t have to settle for the rushed, impersonal feel of a corporate dental chain to get expert gum care. Elgin Smiles is a private, community-focused practice located at 1309 N Avenue C, just minutes from Southside Market and Elgin Memorial Park.

Whether you’ve noticed your gums bleeding or you simply want a more thorough health screening, we are here to help. Let’s protect your foundation together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular cleaning focuses on the visible surfaces of the teeth. A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, cleans below the gumline to remove bacteria and buildup related to gum disease.
You may need a deep cleaning if you have bleeding gums, gum recession, deep periodontal pockets, bone loss, or signs of active gum infection. Elgin Smiles Dental Care will evaluate your gums before recommending treatment.
Yes. Deep cleanings can help control gum disease, reduce harmful bacteria, and protect the bone and tissue that support your teeth.

Gina is the very best hygienist I have ever had. If you want to feel comfortable and confident when it’s time for your routine dental cleaning; Elgin Smiles is where you need to go. I would describe Gina as “Stellar” in her field; as she has all the characteristics necessary to be defined as such. When I receive services that stand out with excellence they never go unnoticed. Even though I don’t live in Elgin, I made the drive out there because I was looking for a dentist that had more of a small town feel and not so corporate. And that’s exactly what I found. It was a great experience from the minute I walked in the door to the cleaning and the exam. Nice people and I was very happy with the results.

After 6 years of not seeing a Dentist due to a horrible experience, I can finally say I found a Dental group that made feel so comfortable. The front staff, Assistant, Hygienist, and Dr Fahmy were so compassionate and listened to my concerns and fears, letting me know they would take good care of me. I walked out with my treatment plan and my estimated cost, loved this. I recommend Elgin Dental 💯

Look….I hateeeeeeeeeeee going to the dentist, I’m no better than a child, but THESE PEOPLE made it so easy and not scary at all. The front desk person was so welcoming and helpful, the hygienist was fun and sweet and the dentist himself was very friendly as well. Everyone explained everything to me in a way that made sense without making me feel dumb or like I was doing something wrong like I’ve felt at other places in the past. 10/10 will be recommending to anyone who asks in the future!!
